Contemporary Scandinavian Farmhouse
Beautiful, functional stairway.
Stairs can combine with other functions to create efficient and innovative spaces - even with very little square footage.
On the left the first stair tread bends against the wall to integrate bi-level shoe storage. The slats on either side of the mirror will have hooks for coats and the third step up flows into the bench seat with storage below. The design details coincide with the custom maple and cherry door. And, for an accent on the floor we repurposed oak floor boards, turned the entry boards at an angle and cut the seam with a curve coordinating with the curve at the 3" thick butcher block island top.

Playing with Light and Shadow
Light & shadow create an abiance which is unequaled.
Part of what we do at Hudson Design Perspectives is to vision and anticipate how light (and shadow) will effect the space.
In this picture you can see how the architecture of the stair creates movement on the floor as the sun shines through.
The classic schoolhouse light fixtures no only add to the farmhouse feel they also function magnificently - softly yet brightly illuminating the space and creating highlight patterns that dance across the ceiling and draw attention to the incredible custom slatte wood authentic bead board ceiling.
After over 25 years in this house, Julie and Rich decided it was time to have a Truly Functional Home for their busy work, gardening, farming and family life! The Scandinavian colors and simple lines reflect Julie's distinctive taste, while Rich put his construction background to the test. Together we set out to create the perfect space for all of their needs.

Coffee & Pantry
Part of Farmhouse Living is starting seedlings, growing microgreens and tending to plants needing extra care. This pantry, with it's South and West exposure, offers the plants, and the homeowners, plenty of sunshine.
By installing glass shelves in front of the sliding windows we maximize not only our space but also sunshine access.
The pantry itself acts as one large cabinet with it's open shelving, refrigerator, freezer (not shown); and the drop leaf mobile island accommodates mutiple functions.
Custom Kitchen Cabinets
Custom Cabinets are often looked upon as a luxury; however, when you have limitation of space, budget and a number of storage requirements, customizing the cabinetry can not only maximize function through efficient use of space, we also sieze opportunity for continuity of form and beauty that is 'Beyond Ordinary''.
On the left, you see pull out garbage, recycling and multiple compost drawers all in a beautiful cabinet, raised off the floor and topped with an antique enamel sink.
On the right, the custom shallow, beveled glass cabinet is perfect for spices. The shelves in front of the window accommodates plants and more beauty!
Custom Spice Cabinet, Tile &Glass Plant Shelves
Designed to heat the whole house, this Wood Burning Stove epitomizes engineering meeting beauty as it is strategically located for maximum efficiency, surrounding function & enjoyment. And, with continuation of painted, tongue & groove ceiling, tile that coordinates with kitchen backsplash affords another opportunity for continuity of form and beauty that is 'Beyond Ordinary'.
The drawing is an example of how the concepts begin: In a meeting the homeowner conveys needs & we turn it into a functional art sketch . . . to be built out making our collaboration of dreams and creativity a reality!

Modern Abstract Retro
Retro Red meets White Subway Tile with Back-Lit Glass Block
Retro/metro meets farmhouse to create a unique style with classic elements from each.
Not only is this tile artful, it also includes refurbished glass block, lit up with LED strip lights set above each block and controlled on one dimmer switch. This affords either task or ambiant lighting.
(On the other side of the wall is the basement stairwell which not only benefits from the lighting at night but also the South sunlight from the kitchen during the day as you walk down the stairs!
Abstract Tile Art Bathroom
Tile Becomes Art on the walls and floors when we take the opportunity! In this home the architecture creates the shapes and the tile creates the pattern.
The function really kicks up when we set in mirrored medicine cabinets and build in tiled shelves integral with the window sill. (Additional linen cabinet not shown.)

Extraordinary Exterior Architectural Style
Contemporary-Mission
We want your exterior to authentically represent your style, also! This couple wanted a lighter, more contemporary version of an authentic Mission-style home. So by combining an unusual shed roof we brought high ceilings and light into their music and living space while simultaneously splashing the exterior with a fresh, new, remastered Mission style with a contemporary flair.
At Hudson Design Perspectives, we combine styles to create uniqueness which reflects not just one but both yours and your spouse's taste. We do this for each home or business. The possibilities are infininte. . . as we engineer and design extraordinary architecture for each project.
For this midwestern home we adopted quaint details from the turn-of-the-century Victorian style and harmonized with the linear simplicity of the style of Frank Lloyd Wright.
North-facing you see the sun streaming in the midst of an impossibly blue sky creating a magical winter moment.
I recently toured with the third home owners who were excited to show me that this home was essentially the exact same as it was when it was originally built with beautiful details everywhere along with incomparable function and flexibility.
Because they are about to embark on a new business venture up north homeowners #3 sold this Victorian-Wrightian home to a couple who have been waiting for it to come up for sale and purchased it off site immediately as soon as it hit the market! Now that is timeless beauty and function with benefits!

This exquiste
turret adds to the authenticity of the Victorian style with graceful yet simple Wrightian elegance.
Inside the octagonal shape creates the perfect Dining space on the Main floor and a dreamy Master bed-space on the second level. Because of the octagon, both ceilings were challenging, skillfully designed with unique artistry and expertly accomplished by local craftsmen for an indescribable yet unforgettable experience.
Interesting Details & Architectural Elements
Tradition is accentuated through this table which is made up of over eight species of wood, including wood from a Cherry tree from the yard of his grandfather and from a Birch tree from the farm of her grandmother, along with Aunt Thea's Walnut tree, too!
(The elegant and beautiful base is make of Spalted Sycamore wood.)
